Liverpool Need Goalscoring Midfielder
Speaking exclusively to Genting, he said: “Liverpool need to sign a goalscoring midfielder. They've got six or seven midfielders and Fabinho was the most prolific last year.
“Liverpool need somebody who averages eight, nine or ten goals from open play, to take the pressure off the front three.
“Jude Bellingham is the ideal player for Liverpool because he can nick a goal, he's energetic and he's a good footballer. He's the perfect fit for them.
“I think Bellingham will stay one more year at Borussia Dortmund and that won't do him any harm. It'll help him improve as a player and get another season of football in Germany under his belt.
“Next summer, he could be Liverpool's number one target because he's exactly the player they need.”
Bellingham A Long-Term Solution
The teenager would provide a long-term solution in the Reds’ engine room, after Liverpool future-proofed their right-back slot with the addition of Aberdeen youngster Calvin Ramsay.
However, Hamann doesn’t expect the £4million arrival to challenge Trent Alexander-Arnold for a first-team berth next season.
“Liverpool had a lot of defensive injuries last season and they do need players to cover,” he explained.
“There were times last season when James Milner played at right-back.
“I hope Calvin Ramsay stays at Liverpool rather than going out on loan and if he can play 15-20 games next season then that'll be a good introduction to the Premier League for him.
“I don't think he'll be able to push Trent Alexander-Arnold because he [Trent] is the best right-back in the Premier League.”
“Seeing how well Andy Robertson has performed probably encouraged Ramsay to make the move to Anfield – but then again if you play in the Scottish Premier League and you've got the chance to go to the Premier League and to Liverpool, I think it's very hard to turn down.
“Liverpool have had some of the best Scottish players playing for them so that may have been the last piece in the jigsaw to agree to make the move to Liverpool.”
Salah Has A Reds Future
One player potentially leaving Anfield is Mohamed Salah, with the attacking sensation yet to agree a contract extension beyond next summer.
But Hamann can envisage a future for the Egyptian on Merseyside – and has doubts over whether he would join potential suitors Real Madrid.
“Liverpool could easily give Mo Salah a two- or three-year contract because I'm not sure if he'd go to a club like Real Madrid given the history in the Champions League,” he said.
“Salah doesn't have to make decisions now. He's still got a year left on his contract and can make a choice in three or six months' time.”
