Denmark v Switzerland Preview And Betting Tips – Euro 2020 Qualifiers Matchday 7

DENMARK V SWITZERLAND ODDS HERE

Plenty At Stake

This is a crucial game in Group D with Ireland leading Denmark and Switzerland by two and three points respectively, though the latter do hold a game in hand over their rivals owing to their participation in the Nations League this summer.

A defeat here then would be particularly damaging for Denmark, but Age Hareide’s side should be expected to hold their own given how tough they can be to overcome.

Denmark Recent Form

Excluding a 3-0 defeat to Slovakia in September 2018, where Denmark fielded a second-string side after a dispute between the players and the Danish FA, the hosts last tasted defeat over 90 minutes back in October 2016.

They’ve drawn 16 of 30 matches over this period, as just one of those stalemates went beyond normal time as they crashed out of the World Cup on penalties to eventual finalists Croatia.

Of those 30 matches, Denmark won seven out of 13 on home soil, including victories over Poland, Mexico, Wales and Austria, as well as impressive draws with Germany and Chile.

Switzerland Recent Form

Switzerland could only finish second in their qualifying group for the World Cup despite winning nine of 10 matches, ultimately being ousted by Portugal on goal difference.

Although they benefited from being drawn alongside Hungary, the Faroe Islands, Latvia and Andorra, they’ve since shown plenty of mettle in subsequent fixtures.

They drew 1-1 away in Spain prior to the tournament in Russia and produced the same result against Brazil in the group stages, while they pipped Belgium to top spot in the Nations League before drawing with England in the third-place play-off, going down only on penalties.

BOOSTED TREBLE: DENMARK, SPAIN AND ITALY ALL TO WIN AT 7/2!

Denmark And Switzerland To Draw

There should be little to separate these two sides then, just as there was in the reverse fixture back in March as they produced a 3-3 stalemate.

Denmark might count themselves fortunate to have avoided defeat having scored three times in the final six minutes plus stoppage time to restore parity, though Denmark aren’t usually involved in high-scoring affairs and we wouldn’t expect a repeat explosion of goals.

The only key man missing for either side is Xherdan Shaqiri, who also missed the last round of international fixtures as he opted to stay behind at Liverpool in a bid to win back more playing time at club level.

Although in theory he’s back in the fold after clear the air talks with head coach Vladimir Petkovic, a calf strain keeps him out of the current squad, while he was also absent through injury when the two played out that 3-3 draw earlier this year.

Switzerland have only lost four of 36 qualifiers since the campaign for the 2014 World Cup, with two of those against England and another versus Portugal, drawing three of the last five such matches.

Given five of Denmark’s last seven outings have ended all square, as the exceptions came in wins over weaker outfits Georgia and Gibraltar, this has stalemate written all over it.

Denmark And Switzerland To Draw At 9/4
