Recent Form

In what is the most hotly contested IPL in recent memory, only two points separate second place and last and despite both these sides being in terrible form, points are being dropped everywhere and they are both likely to qualify for the playoffs barring a horrendous run rate in defeat for either.

There’s more on the line than just top four though, with the winner here taking second spot which effectively will give them two rolls of the dice to reach the final should they require it.

The Capitals will be amazed they have kept their place in the top four and maintained their record of never failing to reach the play-offs, though four defeats on the bounce is not the kind of form they’ll want to be heading into this clash with.

They’ve massively gone off the boil in both their batting and bowling after a really strong start, losing too many wickets early on in the innings, seeing an opening partnership of one or fewer in five of their last six matches.

Shikhar Dhawan has looked a shadow of his former self in recent clashes and although there’s big decisions to be made up top, they’ve also been poor in closing out the death overs.

Kagiso Rabada has been caught at the top of the wicket standings by Jasprit Bumrah, while aside from Anrich Nortje and Ravichandran Ashwin there’s very little potency with the ball.

The Capitals have undoubted talent at their disposal, and if they’re on form they can certainly cause problems, though it’s hard to get behind them with little evidence to suggest they’ll be at the top of their game here.

Royal Challengers Bangalore To Win

While RCB haven’t exactly reached the heights we know they’re capable of either recently, they’ve been somewhat unlucky in that in two of their three most recent defeats they have had to deal with significantly dewey conditions.

Aaron Finch has been replaced in the lineup by fellow Australian Josh Phillipe, and although the 23-year-old has played well, it seems to have disrupted the balance of the batting order slightly so it will be interesting to see if he can hold on to his place.

Despite Virat Kohli and co. not being able to score big recently, they’re issues don’t seem as deep rooted as the Capitals and we’ll back RCB to clinch that second spot.
