Recent Form

Wales won the reverse fixture hosting the Czech Republic 1-0 as Daniel James struck late on, with Patrick Schick sent off for the visitors early in the second half, as Connor Roberts suffered the same fate shortly before the breakthrough.

Given Belgium are by far and away the dominant force in Group E and weak duo Belarus and Estonia bring up the rear, this is a crunch match with the Czech Republic and Wales locked on seven points.

The Dragons do hold a game in hand, but have only played Belgium once so far, whereas the Czech Republic have gotten both fixtures with the Red Devils out of the way.

Wales have only won twice in nine matches now (W2-D4-L3), with those coming over a Turkey side that underwhelmed at Euro 2020 and more recently against Belarus.

This spell has seen them produce goalless stalemates with Albania, Finland and Estonia, with a lack of output still a problem for the Dragons despite a reasonable amount of firepower available to Robert Page.

Both Teams To Score (No)

19 of Wales’ past 25 fixtures have seen fewer than three goals, as 12 of 20 since the start of 2020 have seen just one strike or none at all.

At least one team has failed to score in a massive 18 of their past 22 fixtures, and they enter this clash without talisman Gareth Bale.

They do however have the likes of Daniel James, Harry Wilson, Kieffer Moore, David Brooks, Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey all available, though at the back both Tom Lockyer and Rhys Norrington-Davies have had to pull out.

Still, where Bale has played fewer than 45 minutes, Wales are W4-D4-L1 since 2019. They kept clean sheets in all but one of those games, a 3-0 defeat to England at Wembley, but all four stalemates were goalless and all four victories came by 1-0 scorelines.

The standard of opposition in these games was largely poor (Trinidad & Tobago, Belarus, Ireland, Bulgaria, USA, Mexico, Albania and Finland), but a low-scoring encounter looks the order of the day without the efforts of their star man.

That’s especially the case considering six of the Czech’s past eight games have seen fewer than three goals, with the exceptions coming against strong Belgium and Denmark sides.

Their past four competitive home games have all seen a maximum of two goals, though they do at least have Patrik Schick back available following his suspension.

PREDICTION:

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE (NO)
