Recent Form

This rivalry stems back to the 1970s and although there is around 45 miles between them, both sets of fans certainly like to get one over the other.

Since Brighton were promoted for the 2017/18 campaign, they hold the slightly better record of W3-D2-L2 from their seven meetings across all competitions, although it was Palace who were on top of them last term, with a draw here at Selhurst Park and a win in the return fixture on the south coast.

It has been an extremely tough start to the season for the Eagles, having hosted last seasons’ third best travelling side Southampton, Man Utd, top of the table Everton and Chelsea.

Indeed, they were denied a point after Richarlison was gifted a penalty through the old hand ball rule against the table topping Toffees, beat the struggling Red Devils and Saints and were humbled last time out at Stamford Bridge. Overall, that looks a respectful run of results and they’ll want to improve on that this weekend still.

The Seagulls come into this fixture off the back of three straight defeats across all tournaments, although they too haven’t had the easiest of matches, facing Man Utd twice, Everton, Chelsea, Newcastle, Portsmouth and Preston.

It’s no surprise that their four defeats came against the former three sides, while they won the other three and they could really do with extending their current three-point gap to bottom of the table Fulham.

Palace And Brighton To Draw

Excluding the ‘Big Six’, last season’s Leicester and this season’s Everton, Palace have gone a respectable W7-D3-L3 from their 13 such matches since the start of last season, as their defeats came against the impressive travelling Saints, Chris Wilder’s Sheffield Utd outfit and a Burnley side in the midst of an impressive seven game unbeaten run, and so they look in a solid position to take the game to their visitors.

Meanwhile, Brighton have drawn four of their last seven unbeaten games on the road at similar sides, with two of their three victories coming by fine one goal margins.

We therefore expect this one to be another close one, like it was in December when they last faced one another here when finishing 1-1, and the stalemate looks the most valuable option.

Palace And Brighton To Draw 9/4
