Off the back of a hugely impressive one day series against Australia, captain Eoin Morgan will take charge of his England side once more in the Twenty20 Tri Series against Australia and New Zealand.
First up for the Poms is a game against Australia, who started off with a thumping win against New Zealand in their opening game of the Tri Series.
Not yet available for selection is all-rounder Ben Stokes. The Durham player is in the squad but will not link up with his teammates until after his court appearance on February 13th.
Some of the other notable absentees for England will be Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali. Test captain Root was initially set to play but is heading home for some rest before the one-day series against New Zealand. Bairstow and Ali are also being given time off after their heavy involvement in the recent Test and ODI series against Australia.
The Tri Series will see six matches between the three competing teams, culminating in a final played in Auckland at the end of the month. England face the number two ranked t20 side in New Zealand and an Australian team keen to put a disappointing one-day series behind them here.
In England’s first game against the Aussies, their top order will have to game plan for the very impressive Billy Stanlake, who has announced himself on the international stage. Stanlake took two wickets in his first two balls against the Black Caps, on his way to closing figures of 3-15.
If the openers can see off the towering 23-year-old and his imposing 6ft 8-inch frame, one player down the order for England who could be key is Jos Buttler. After a fine one-day series, the Lancashire batsman offers good value to be England’s top run scorer in this game with cricket betting odds of 9/2.
In their warmup up game against Prime Minister’s XI, England romped to an eight-wicket win. Opener David Willey smashed six sixes on his way to a rapid 79 off 43 balls. The free hitting left hander will be looking to bring that form into this game, and you can back England to win the six hitting battle in this one, with odds of 13/10 for the tourists to clear the rope more than the Aussies.
After an up-and-down tour so far, England will be desperate to finish on a high with victory in the Tri Series.
