It’s been a lengthy break for CSK since their heavy defeat to the Delhi Capitals last Friday, but that will come with its benefits. MS Dhoni has had time to think about tinkering with his starting team, as well as allowing Ambati Rayudu to overcome a slight hamstring injury to put himself right back in contention for this one.
Rayudu was the star of their opening day victory over reigning champions the Mumbai Indians, with his 71 off 48 balls ultimately decisive in the run chase.
His injury saw him sit out of their last two defeats which has left them at the foot of the table, though his return will be a massive boost for Dhoni and co. and means that opening partnership of Rayudu and Shane Watson can mix it with the heavily talented openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow of the Sunrisers.
Victory over the Delhi Capitals last time out was the first time that Warner and Bairstow managed to put on a meaningful partnership of 77, while MAnish Pandey and Kane Williamson have more than enough ability to take on the Super Kings bowling attack.
Losers in this tie will be left rock bottom of the table and with a lot of work to do in order to claw their way back into the mix. Both teams have a lot of quality and should be nowhere near the bottom, but with patchy form and likely personnel changes for both sides, we’ll ignore the outright.
