Recent Form
We saw an interesting change in the Indian Premier League dynamic over the weekend. Batting first and setting a score had been an immediate advantage since the start of the competition, but with Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals all winning after chasing respectable scores, we’re inclined to see it as less of an advantage.
These two sides currently prop up the table with six points apiece after nine matches, and while Chennai Super Kings look to be finding some form, the Royals have now lost six of their last seven outings.
Ben Stokes’ return hasn’t exactly set the world alight, scoring just 61 runs from his three innings and they’ll need a much bigger return from him if they’re to win this one.
Chennai Super Kings To Win
The Super Kings were unlucky not come away with three points against the Delhi Capitals and having downed Sunrisers Hyderabad prior to that, there isn’t a whole lot they’re doing wrong at the minute.
Of course, they’re way down at the base of the table, but with the batting of Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson, as well as the bowling of Sam Curran, Shardul and Deepak Chahar, they should have the edge in this fixture with the pitches starting to slow down.
The only worry would be if Jofra Archer can get some early wickets, but even then, he needs someone to help him out.
No Royals player has picked up more than half of Archers’ 12 wickets so far, and it looks as if they’re heading for another finish towards the bottom of the IPL table.
