Chelsea may only have won twice in their last six across all competitions, but they haven’t had the easiest of fixtures as they’ve faced the Manchester duo, Ajax and Valencia over this spell.
Man City’s win over them at the Etihad last weekend ended a run of six straight league victories, and though the standard of opposition across these games wasn’t the greatest as Burnley were the only top-half team they encountered, given where West Ham are currently this shouldn’t be much different.
The Hammers last tasted victory back in September and have lost six of eight winless matches across all tournaments since then.
They shipped at least two goals in all but one of these games, with the exception at home to Sheffield Utd, who are the lowest scorers amongst the top half of the table.
West Ham’s last three outings have seen Newcastle, Burnley and Spurs all put three past them, though they did net four times themselves across these games.
The continued absence of Lukasz Fabianski is sure to hurt the Hammer’s rearguard effort, as they immediately saw a drop off in results after the Polish shot stopper suffered a torn hip muscle.
Replacement keeper Roberto has been an absolute disaster and is simply not up to the task, especially with regards to set-pieces, and it will be interesting to see if Manuel Pellegrini keeps faith with the Spaniard or takes decisive action.
Fabianski has returned to training but isn’t expected to feature this side of Christmas, and it would therefore come as no great shock to see Pellegrini turn to third choice David Martin – even if the 33-year-old has never played at this level and has spent most of his career in the third tier.

The visitors defensive problems are compounded by a one-game suspension that centre-back Issa Diop must serve.
He can’t feature having picked up his fifth booking of the season last weekend and since signing for the club last summer, the Hammers have lost four of five winless matches he’s missed.
They conceded at least twice in each of these games, with all but one of them featuring a minimum of three goals.
There should be plenty of action in the final third for this clash then. Only Pep Guardiola’s free-scoring side have seen more goals across their matches this season than the Blues, and across all competitions, six of Chelsea’s last seven matches have seen at least three strikes.
Tammy Abraham remains a doubt for this one though the club are hopeful of his availability, but with the likes of Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud to call upon if they are forced to, we can still see the hosts finding a way through here.
