Both these sides were involved in seven-goal thrillers this weekend, with Tammy Abraham’s hat-trick helping Chelsea to a 5-2 win away at Wolves, while Valencia were on the wrong end of the same scoreline at the Camp Nou.
There have been goals galore in the Blues’ games this term, with 16 across their last three outings alone now, as it appears Frank Lampard’s men are incapable of playing any other way than on the front foot.
Managerial Changes For Valencia
Valencia were a hard-working and fairly miserly outfit under Marcelino, yielding a fourth-place finish in La Liga last term, while in Europe they had low-scoring encounters away at Juventus, Man Utd and Young Boys in the Champions League group stages.
There wasn’t much in the way of arrivals or departures over the summer for the Spanish outfit, though a lack of transfer activity led to division between the manager and the board. Despite their success under Marcelino, he was replaced during the international break by Albert Celades.

Like Lampard, Celades is a rookie at this level and has only managed Spain at various youth levels. However, none of the resilience formed under his predecessor was on display at the weekend and so we’re inclined to back more goals here.
Certainly, the likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount won’t lack for confidence after their strong starts to the campaign. Given the former has netted seven times in their past three outings, he appears well-placed to register again.
Lampard Has Injury Concerns
Injuries may well play a role in delivering a high output in this contest too. Emerson will likely miss out again and so the defensively suspect Marcos Alonso should continue at left-back, N’Golo Kante is still a major doubt with a niggling ankle issue, while Antonio Rudiger only lasted the opening 45 minutes at the weekend in his first start since April.
Both goals Chelsea conceded at Molineux came after he was replaced at half-time by Kurt Zouma, but though Lampard will be keen to have the German back as soon as possible, he won’t want to risk aggravating any problems with a busy schedule up ahead – especially with Liverpool coming to town at the weekend.
