Recent Form

The machine keeps on rolling as it’s now 14 matches unbeaten for Thomas Tuchel in all competitions, but although the Blues have done well to propel themselves into the top four, that outcome is by no means a certainty as they sit just two points clear of West Ham in fifth.

Wins to nil over Atletico Madrid (twice), Liverpool, Everton and Spurs has certainly helped the side grow in confidence, though these are exactly the kind of games that they’ll need to avoid slipping up in if they want to hang on to their current position.

Chelsea are lacking firepower at the moment, though it’s clear the certainly don’t rely on anyone in particular for their output, with Jorginho and Mason Mount joint top scorers under the current regime with three apiece, so they’ll need their forward players to start picking up the pace if they want to maintain this form.

West Brom look a near certainty for the drop, though we’ve seen it time and time again that a couple of positive results will throw them right back into contention for safety, something their manager is a specialist at. ‘Big Sam’ has slowly been putting his stamp on this Baggies side, as recent results would suggest.

Under 2.5 Goals

Despite still having the worst defence in the league, they’ve only conceded three goals in their last six matches as they’ve looked far more defensively sound.

However, with that defensive stability comes a lack of attacking potency, as they’ve only managed two goals in that period, meaning their last seven matches have seen an average of just one goal in total per game, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a similar outcome here.

The London side managed three or more goals in 48% of matches under Frank Lampard this season, including in his final game in charge.

However, Tuchel hasn’t managed that feat in any of his 14 matches so far, relying on defensive balance rather than attacking prowess to get results.

They’ve now not conceded a goal for almost 11 and a half hours of football, though with West Brom’s recent record at the back, they might find it difficult to jell off the bat right after an international break and we wouldn’t expect them to run riot.

That leaves the under 2.5 goals market a very good proposition at the prices. The midlands side have seen that outcome in each of their last seven matches, while Chelsea have seen it in 13 of 14 under current management across all competitions at an average of 1.36 goals per game.
