Chelsea are going from strength to strength under Thomas Tuchel as they secured the Super Cup this week with a penalties victory over Villarreal to get their season off to the perfect start.

They’ll fancy their chances of pushing Man City all the way this year, and these are the exact games they’ll need to pick up maximum points in if they were to do so.

Palace begin a new era after Roy Hodgson provided ample security at the helm by solidifying their Premier League status, and going down the Patrick Viera route is certainly a shift to a contrasting strategy.

A strong pre-season was needed for the new manager and that’s exactly what was delivered with five wins from six unbeaten matches, the most impressive being the 3-1 victory over new Premier League side Watford in their last outing, with Wilfried Zaha starring in that outing and proving why Viera wants to keep him.

Chelsea To Win And Over 2.5 Goals

For a few years Palace were a massive bogey team for the Blues, taking three points off them in four of the five seasons between 2013/14 and 2017/18, though the West London side have now taken maximum points in each of the last seven outings, winning last season’s games by an aggregate 8-1, so Viera has some issues to iron out for this fixture.

In truth, if Chelsea are on song they shouldn’t run into too many hurdles here with the depth of their squad and the return of fans to Stamford Bridge both playing massively into their hands, and that’s certainly reflected in the prices so we’ll look to couple the 1x2 with another market.

If this were Roy Hodgson still in charge, we’d expect a low scoring affair between these two sides as goals certainly weren’t flowing for either last term.

However, Palace have now seen 12 goals in their last three outings in pre-season, with all seeing over 3.5 goals land, while head-to-head history would suggest that this fixture is a bit of a trend buster with seven of the last nine meetings seeing a minimum of three goals, while the last three alone have seen a whopping 14 fly in.

With the array of attacking talent on display for the hosts, not to mention the imminent arrival of striker Romelu Lukaku for a second spell in London, as well as the likes of Zaha and Christian Benteke both getting on the scoresheet in their last outing, we’d be surprised if there weren’t goals at the Bridge this weekend, and the over 2.5 goals market is worth getting in the double.
