LIVERPOOL, WOLVES AND CHELSEA ALL TO WIN AT 7/1 HERE!

Recent Form

Man Utd fans could enjoy a sigh of relief at Carrow Road as their team won away from home for just the second time since that famous night in Paris nearly eight months ago.

The other occasion was their previous outing as they ground out a 1-0 victory over Partizan Belgrade, but the Serbian outfit are hardly titans of world football and this was only the second time over this period (home or away) where United have managed to pick up back-to-back wins.

They’ll know they’ve got their work cut out in this fixture too. Chelsea have hit their stride and are currently on a seven-game winning streak dating back to late September, while revenge will surely be on Frank Lampard’s mind having seen his side dispatched 4-0 at Old Trafford by the Red Devils on the opening weekend of the Premier League.

The Blues have a rich recent history in domestic knockout tournaments as well, having won the FA Cup or League Cup a combined eight times in the past 15 seasons.

There have been some runners-up finishes to boot, including in this competition last term as they lost out to City on penalties. In total, they’ve won the League Cup five times, as have United, though by contrast, the Red Devils have only lifted two domestic cups in the past nine years.

In fact, United have failed to win any of their last three fixtures in this tournament, despite not encountering any Premier League opposition.

Bristol City knocked them out in 2017/18, while it was Lampard’s Derby outfit that did so last term, while having only advanced past Rochdale on penalties in their opening round this season, it’s hard to get excited about backing them.

The only saving grace for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the return of striker Anthony Martial, who scored with a deft chip to beat Tim Krul at the weekend. Since the Norwegian took over the reins, Martial has started 13 league matches as United have won 77% of these, while this drops to an alarming 28% in the 18 matches he’s missed.

However, looking at cup matches alone, they’ve lost three of their four outings he’s started under Solskjaer, while without him their record is actually better, winning five of their eight such matches as they only lost once to Barcelona.

Chelsea To Win

The hosts have now won each of their last three matches at Stamford Bridge by an aggregate score of 10-1 and look enticing at the current prices.

Although those victories came over Grimsby, Brighton and Newcastle, they have tightened up their defence a little having kept clean sheets in each of the last two such fixtures, while they also recently shut out Ajax in Amsterdam.

With their rearguard action the big question that had been lingering over them, they should have enough about them to secure an eighth straight victory in all tournaments.

Moreover, Chelsea have won seven of their last 10 fixtures hosting Man Utd dating back into October 2012. Considering the visitors’ only domestic victory on the road since March came against promoted outfit Norwich (W1-D3-L6), we’re certainly happy to take them on at the prices.
