Champions League Last 16 - Second Leg Betting Preview

Manchester United pray for another de Gea masterclass while Barcelona look to take advantage of a rather dispirited Chelsea side.

With Manchester United being unable to fire home a crucial away goal in the first leg (0-0), and Chelsea conceding in their home leg against Barcelona (1-1), it seems both English teams are in for a tough night’s work in the return fixtures as neither are currently in the driving seat.

The big talking points surrounding these fixtures include Chelsea’s current confidence compared with that of Barcelona and Manchester United’s constant reliance on David De Gea to keep them in the tie against Sevilla.

With Chelsea going into this game having not won a match in their last three in all competitions and Barcelona having only lost one match all season, it seems that with Lionel Messi and his merry men being in impressive form, it should be a walk in the park for Valverde’s men. So that most certainly makes it look like Barcelona winning to nil is a likely outcome, and you can back this with odds of 13/10.

In the other English game, Manchester United once again have David de Gea to thank for going into the second leg on level terms. And luckily for United fans it is very rare that they don’t score at the theatre of dreams. Therefore, with United having the home advantage and de Gea bang inform, it seems a good bet for United to go through at 8/15, even without a crucial away goal.

With both the Chelsea and Manchester United games being so close they need that spark of magic. Fortunately, with world class teams, comes world class players who are capable of turning a game on its head in an instant, but who are the ones to watch in this week’s fixtures.

1. LIONEL MESSI (Barcelona)

If Barcelona are even in need of special moment in a match, more often than not, Lionel produces the goods. Not only is Messi the joint top scorer in Europe’s top leagues (24 goals) but he is also the top assister. If a special moment is needed you can be sure he won’t be far away.

2. WILLIAN (Chelsea)

Chelsea’s stand out man in the first leg, hitting both sides of the woodwork and finally converting in the second half. If there is an upset on the cards, this man could definitely be the one providing the spark.

3. BEN YEDDER (Sevilla)

With six goals in six UCL appearances and seventeen in all competitions, if anyone is likely to upset the Red Devils’ night it could well be this man.

4. DAVID DE GEA (Manchester United)

Nineteen clean sheets in thirty-five games this season as well as winning three man of the match awards, he is currently in inspiring form, and could once again be the difference to send United through.

5. ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI (Bayern Munich)

Mr. Consistent, with twenty-two goals in his last thirty-one UCL matches in the last three years. Lewandowski is a major threat on the floor and in the air. Get him as an outside bet to win the UCL top scorer here at 14/1.

In the other two fixtures away from the English legs, you can almost certainly expect goals. With eight goals between them in the two first-leg games and Bayern Munich being at home this time round you can expect them to comfortably finish the job. Whereas, the Roma game could be the one to watch…
