Recent Form

Celtic’s six-game winning streak has come to an end with narrow defeats in their last two outings to AZ Alkmaar and Rangers.

However, those were always going to be tough encounters and progress to the Europa League group stages was still secured, so they’ll fancy their chances of getting back on track at home to Ross County.

The visitors are winless from their four league games to date, conceding eight goals along the way as Hibernian and Rangers were comfortable winners.

Across all competitions, the Staggies are W2-D2-L4 this season, though both victories came against sides in the third-tier or lower in League Cup action. All four defeats saw them concede at least three goals, with all but one of them finishing 3-0, so it’s difficult to see an upset here.

Ange Postecoglou does however have a striking dilemma, with key man Kyogo Furuhashi sustaining a knee injury on international duty with Japan.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a sensational start to his Celtic career with seven goals in nine games, but will surely be rested here even were he to unexpectedly recover in time, with a busy schedule coming up including European clashes with Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen.

Forgotten man may hope for more game time as a result with Odsonne Edouard looking out of sorts, though the latter is proven at this level and will likely get the nod.

Still, with Postecoglou’s swashbuckling brand of football seeing the side create plenty of chances, and with their opponents lacking defensive stability, this encounter should contain goals.

Celtic -2 Handicap

Postecoglou has further options after a busy transfer deadline day saw the arrivals of centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers, as well as winger Felipe Jota and striker Giorgos Giakoumakis.

He also has potential goal threats from midfield and in particular David Turnbull, who didn’t see much action over the international break and with five goals already this season for Celtic, may be worth paying attention to with Furuhashi sidelined.

Seven of Celtic’s past nine matches in all competitions have featured a minimum of three goals, averaging 3.9 per game, so a comfortable victory may be expected here given the porous nature of Ross County’s defence.

They’ve won by at least three clear goals in six of nine league clashes with the Staggies over the past three campaigns, while Celtic have won their four home league games since April by a combined 22-0.

PREDICTION:

CELTIC -2 HANDICAP
