The gap to Rangers has been cut to three points following Celtic’s midweek win at St. Mirren, while they retain a game in hand. The Hoops have the chance to return to the summit here if only for 24 hours, but though they got the job done on Wednesday, the 2-1 victory was hardly all that impressive.
Celtic continue to look as though they’ll drop points on the road, but there’s little to be concerned about over their home form, even if Neil Lennon has claimed the absence of fans is hurting his team.
Celtic To Win To Nil
In the league alone, Celtic have won 33 of 36 home matches since 2018/19, as the sole defeat was inflicted by an improving Rangers back in December. Excluding that clash, he Hoops have racked up 18 consecutive wins at Celtic Park, while keeping clean sheets in nine of the last 13.
Lennon’s men have scored an average of exactly four per game at this venue in 2020 so far, making it easy to see why Livingston start as rank outsiders. The visitors have been in poor form for quite some time now. They’re just W2-D4-L8 in all competitions since early February, while away from home they’re an even worse W1-D5-L12 going back 12 months.
Celtic -2 Handicap
Five of those 12 defeats finished 2-1 and another four ended 1-0 as they usually kept things tight at least, though on the three occasions where they were beaten by more than single strike, two of them came against Celtic and Rangers.
At least one team or the other has failed to score in 11 of Livingston’s 14 encounters with the Old Firm duo since returning to the top flight, with Livi themselves accounting for nine of those.
They’ll be encouraged by the fact they’ve lost just one of their past five meetings with the Celtic, though they were at home in three of these and lost 4-0 when they visited Celtic Park most recently in November.
That clash should provide a better indication of how this one will play out. The Hoops have led at both half-time and full-time in all six home league matches in 2020, winning each of them by at least two goals and five of them by a minimum of three strikes, while they also put six past Icelandic outfit KR Reykjavik in one of their two European outings. Meanwhile, Livingston’s poor form – especially on the road – suggests this will be a comfortable stroll for Lennon’s side.
