Recent Form
Celtic recovered from their 3-2 defeat in Europe to Leverkusen with a 2-1 win hosting Aberdeen at the weekend, leaving them W9-D1-L1 since the start of October as they’ve got the bit between their teeth.
They netted twice at a minimum in nine of these games, though have registered just a single clean sheet in five appearances since the start of November, as these recent outings featured a combined 20 goals in total.
Third-placed Hearts can actually leapfrog Celtic with a victory here, but their form has certainly been patchier of late.
They’ve only lost twice in 13 fixtures since going down 3-2 to Celtic at Parkhead in the League Cup back in August, though these defeats were inflicted in their past two away games to Aberdeen and Motherwell.
They’ve only won twice in seven appearances heading into this fixture as they registered a single clean sheet, while they’re winless across their past five on the road now.
Celtic To Win And Over 2.5 Goals
That certainly poses a problem for the visitors as Celtic have been fairly rampant on home turf.
They’re W11-D2-L1 at Parkhead since the start of August in all competitions, with the only defeat inflicted by Leverkusen, as all but two of those victories saw them register clean sheets.
In the league alone, Celtic are unbeaten in 13 home matches, winning 10 of these and conceding just four goals.
Although Celtic are better at keeping clean sheets in domestic fixtures and especially at home, they will find it header here as Hearts are by far and away the division’s top scorers beyond the Old Firm duo.
Head-to-head meetings between the two sides have also been a consistently high-scoring affair as 21 of 24 clashes since October 2015 have seen at least three goals, while 14 of these featured a minimum of four. 10 of the past 11 meetings have featured at least three strikes.
Over this same time period (since October 2015), Celtic have won all 10 home games, as nine of these featured a minimum of three strikes and eight saw at least four goals.
With that in mind, it’s hard to envisage this being a low-scoring affair, though Celtic’s stellar home form and Hearts’ dip in form should swing this for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
PREDICTION:
CELTIC TO WIN AND OVER 2.5 GOALS
