Celtic are five points clear at the top but have played a game more than Rangers and this represents a massive hurdle on their route to a potential ninth consecutive title.
However, with two of the Gers’ three defeats this season coming by 1-0 and 2-0 scorelines to Celtic themselves, while the other was away at Young Boys in Europe, Neil Lennon will feel that he has the measure of his opposite number.
Aside from a defeat in Romania against CFR Cluj when fielding a second-string side, Celtic have won 16 games on the trot since mid-October.
However, whereas they scored at least four times in five of the first 10 of these, they haven’t scored more than twice in any of the subsequent six matches as their output has been efficient rather than spectacular.
Rangers are certainly better than most at shutting teams out and in fact hold the best defensive record in the division.

They’ve won to nil in each of their past three outings, as well as eight of their last 13 including a 2-0 success over Porto, so they certainly know how to frustrate their opponents.
Recent head-to-heads also suggest that defence could win out over attack. Since Steven Gerrard came in at the start of last season, five of six encounters have seen fewer than three goals, with half of them seeing just the solitary strike.
The Hoops have held the upper hand in this fixture as they’ve emerged victorious in seven of nine meetings since the start of 2018, winning four of six since Gerrard arrived despite only two of those coming at Celtic Park.
At least one team has failed to score in nine of 11 meetings since 2017/18, suggesting that this isn’t going to contain all that many goals.
