CELTIC V KILMARNOCK ODDS HERE!
Kilmarnock Recent Form
Steve Clarke’s tenure as Scotland boss may not have gotten off to the best of starts, but the 56-year-old is surely missed at Kilmarnock where he worked wonders at the helm.
He led them to fifth place in 2017/18 and then in his only full season in charge delivered a third place finish last season, while under his tutelage they were a highly impressive W2-D2-L3 in head-to-heads with Celtic.
His replacement in the dugout, Angelo Alessio, failed to navigate the first qualifying round for the Europa League against Welsh outfit Connah’s Quay, while the opening two weeks of the league season both brought defeats.
They’ve since turned things round with two wins from four unbeaten outings across all competitions, but it’s difficult to see them taking on a Celtic side that have won all five Premiership games to date and scored 18 goals to their opponents’ combined tally of three.
Celtic Recent Form
We’re not so sure that the hosts are going to have it all their own way against Killie however. The Hoops’ extraordinary output owes a lot to a 7-0 win over St. Johnstone (who have been terrible this season) on the opening day, followed by a five-goal haul against Motherwell in their second league game.
Their last two matches have seen them register more conservative 1-0 and 2-0 scorelines, while across all competitions, each of Killie’s last five fixtures have seen fewer than three goals and three of these witnessed a maximum of one.
Under 2.5 Goals
Defensive solidity doesn’t just disappear at once and many of the foundations laid down by Steve Clarke remain.
In fact, since 2017/18, 29 of Killie’s 40 road trips have seen no more than two goals, including each of the last eight as six of these saw just one goal or none at all.
Meanwhile, nine of Celtic’s 16 league games under Neil Lennon have seen fewer than three goals, compared to the regular goal fests we were treated to under Brendan Rodgers.
