Step Up In Class For Smith
Callum Smith is certainly a step up for Canelo with the Liverpudlian boasting an impeccable 27-0-0 record in his professional career with 19 Kos.
However, he’s never faced anyone remotely close to the standards of his opponent here, while although he won via UD in his last fight against John Ryder, that was an extremely questionable decision with ‘The Gorilla’ outboxing Smith for the majority of the fight and looked to have taken the W before the verdict.
Canelo To Win Rounds 7-9
Canelo will deploy a similar strategy to Ryder, only he’s a far superior fighter to the Brit and Mundo may struggle to cope like he did on that night against Ryder.
He’ll have to use his jab to perfection, though we can’t see him keeping Alvarez out for too long and after what may be a few tactically fought early rounds we’d expect the Mexican’s quality to shine through in the second half of the fight, so that’s where to value lies for us.
