Recent Form
A miserly day for Burnley saw them dismissed 3-0 by Chris Wilder’s plucky Sheffield Utd outfit as they moved down to 14th place in the table, while the Blades went the other direction up to sixth.
West Ham were similarly disappointing in their defeat hosting Newcastle, as the 3-2 scoreline was very flattering having been dominated during the first half, while they could have been out of sight had Allan Saint-Maximin taken not fluffed his lines before Manuel Pellegrini’s men added two consolation efforts in the final 17 minutes.
These two sides won their home games against one another last term and Sean Dyche also masterminded a win at Turf Moor over Pellegrini’s Man City side when the two coaches squared off in 2014/15.
A third home victory over his counterpart in the opposite dugout could well be on the cards seeing as the Hammers have lost eight of their last 15 trips dating back to that defeat at Turf Moor in December last year.
Burnley To Win And Under 2.5 Goals
The visitors failed to score in over half of those games as 10 saw fewer than three goals, while their solitary victory from five away days this term came versus basement dwellers Watford. That is a worrying record on the road, with the Hammers even losing 2-0 to an out-of-sorts Everton in the most recent of them.
Not to mention, home or away, they’ve now lost four of their last six winless outings across all competitions dating back to late September, including a 4-0 hammering at Oxford Utd in the League Cup, although they did make wholesale changes for that fixture.
Chris Wood To Score Anytime
A lot is riding on the fitness of Chris Wood as the striker is in a great run of form having netted four goals from as many matches before his hamstring injury, though the New Zealand international is expected to start having been close to making the cut last weekend.
He’s averaged a goal every 46 minutes against West Ham for Burnley in the Premier League, netting five times across his four clashes with them over the past two campaigns, grabbing at least one strike in each of those appearances.
Wood isn’t the quickest of strikers but uses his weight well and can be a real handful at set pieces, something which West Ham failed to deal with as they went down to Newcastle last weekend.
However, with Lukasz Fabianski out until the New Year for West Ham, the visitors will have to live with indecisive flapper Roberto between the sticks for some time yet.
The Clarets have gone W2-D3-L2 across their last seven matches that Wood has started, with the defeats coming against Liverpool and Leicester, while they’ve lost seven straight matches in his absence and failed to score on four occasions.
Sean Dyche’s men hold a respectable record on home turf this season with three wins from five outings, with the exceptions coming against Liverpool and Chelsea.
Excluding the ‘Big Six’, they’ve won five straight matches there now since the end of March, keeping a clean sheet in each of them.
Furthermore, 16 of their last 20 victories against anyone at Turf Moor have finished to nil, with 14 of them either ending either 1-0 or 2-0, while each of the four where their defence was breached finished just 2-1.
