With both Brighton and Burnley just missing the drop last term both managers will be eager to get off to a strong start. Burnley have added Nathan Collins and Wayne Hennessey to their ranks and Sean Dyche will want to get back where they were in 2017/18 and 2019/20 when finishing in seventh and 10th respectively.

Chris Wood continues to deliver for the manager, clocking up a fourth straight season as their top scorer and they’ll want to keep him and Ashley Barnes fit for the majority of the campaign.

The identity of the successful Claret teams has been built on a rock-solid defence and grinding past their opponents, which was slightly lost in the 2020/21 season, as they conceded two or more goals in six of their final nine encounters.

Brighton, on the other hand, have lost the likes of Ben White, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Mathew Ryan. However, only the former centre back will have any significant impact on Graham Potters outfit, with the England international playing all but two of their Premier League matches last term.

Regarding additions to the squad, they’ve splashed out on 23-year-old Salzburg midfielder Enock Mwepu in midfield, but the fans will be hoping they bring in a replacement for their ex-star defender.

Burnley And Brighton To Draw

Only the three bottom teams in the table won fewer games than the Seagulls’ nine victories last season, as they drew more games than any other side.

A large proportion of those stalemates came against the weaker bottom half of the table, as they went W4-D9-L5 against such sides, and although they’ll be hard to beat a few missing players could be their undoing.

Danny Welbeck is out, while Dan Burn and Tariq Lamptey remain major doubts, and without the two fullbacks’ penetration down the flanks, they’ll struggle to drive forward.

Burnley have looked strong in pre-season, overcoming the likes of Tranmere, Blackpool and Oldham, although they lost to Cadiz last time out.

They drew five of their final nine winless games at Turf Moore at the end of last season and that has to play a role in this opener.

They also went seven games without a win at all venues at the beginning of last term and although they aren’t faced with the same injury troubles as their visitors, the draw looks like the value option.

Only once have these sides been separated by more than a single goal since the start of the 2017/18 season, drawing five of those eight matches, including three of the last four.
