Great Start For Bristol Not So For Boro
It has been a dream start to the season for Bristol City as although they lost to Leeds on their opening weekend, they’ve since won three of four unbeaten league outings. They may have crashed out the Carabao Cup earlier this month on penalties against QPR, but they won the crucial league tie against the same opponents just four days later.
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough have gone a disappointing W1-D2-L2 from their opening five league outings, as well as suffering a defeat on penalties to League Two outfit Crew Alexandra in cup action. Their sole victory came over Wigan, who are in the midst of five straight defeats across all competitions and like last year, the Latics find themselves towards the lower extremities of the table.

One recurring theme for Boro has been the lack of goals in their matches, something which also afflicted them last term under former boss Tony Pulis.
Indeed, over this period they’ve seen fewer than three goals in 35 of their 51 matches and a strike or fewer in 19. That includes four of five games this term that have seen a maximum of two goals, but although Bristol have been a little more free scoring, 16 of their 25 home games since the start of last season have also seen the Under 2.5 Goals market come in.

Given the Robins have enjoyed that recent success, we expect them to be oozing with confidence back at Ashton Gate. Moreover, Boro have lost by exactly one strike in 23 of their 29 league defeats since 2017/18, as 14 ended 1-0, including both of their defeats in the current campaign.
Add the fact that Bristol City won by that exact scoreline when these two last met back in April, as well as in half of their six head-to-heads since 2015/16, and it looks the bet of the match for us.
