It’s difficult to know exactly which version of Tottenham will turn up at the moment. Including an extra time winner for Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, their form in 2022 so far reads WLWLWLWLLWLWLWL (seven wins and eight defeats).
In recent weeks, sublime victories over Man City (3-2), Leeds (4-0) and Everton (5-0) have been punctuated by setbacks to relegation candidates Burnley, Championship side Boro and an uninspiring Man Utd as Ronaldo proved the difference maker.
It would come as no surprise therefore to see the visitors bounce back from their weekend defeat, and Brighton would appear obliging opponents. The Seagulls began the campaign so well, but the New Year hasn’t been so kind to them and they’re just W1-D3-L6 since mid-January.
That includes an FA Cup defeat to Tottenham themselves, while the last five outings have all ended in defeats and produced an aggregate 11-1 scoreline.
Harry Kane To Score Anytime
In fact, Graham Potter’s men have only managed a single clean sheet from 13 matches now in all competitions, as even that came against relegation contenders Watford.
With that in mind, it’s hard to look past the in-form Harry Kane in the goalscorers market, especially as the England captain has scored in each of his last three appearances against Brighton, including a brace when the two met last month in the FA Cup.
After only managing the single league goal up to mid-December this season, the striker has since bagged 10 from 13 league appearances – including six across the last five.
Tottenham To Win
Although Brighton have been particularly poor in front of goal recently, it’s not so easy to get behind an away clean sheet either. Tottenham have only kept their opponent’s attack at bay in two of 14 matches when including extra time, and in just three of 20 away from home since the start of September.
Still, only Burnley and Norwich have scored fewer goals than Brighton in the league this season, while they’ll be without the midfield creativity of Adam Lallana for this one, so Tottenham should have enough about them to pull through for a crucial victory.
