Recent Form
Tottenham have lost further ground in the title race following their 3-1 defeat to Liverpool and Jose Mourinho will rue what might have been, after his side saw an early Heung-min Son strike ruled out for offside via VAR by the tightest of margins.
However, by the end of the night his side had in truth been outclassed and to make matters worse, star striker Harry Kane is now set for a spell on the sidelines having injured both ankles in the defeat as he had to be replaced at half time.
Since the start of last season, Tottenham have scored 1.73 goals per game with Kane in the starting line-up (48 matches), compared with 1.33 from the nine in his absence.
They only went W3-D3-L3 across those outings, and they’re sure to miss him over the coming weeks. Mourinho is also without left-back Sergio Reguilon and midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, while forgotten man Dele Alli remains a doubt.
Tottenham To Beat Brighton
Graham Potter isn’t without any injury concerns of his own as Brighton are still missing Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Danny Welbeck, Tariq Lamptey and Florin Andone, while Jose Izquierdo is a doubt.
The Seagulls are just one place and five points ahead of the relegation zone, with Fulham having played a game less, as they’re picking up most of their points through stalemates.
They’ve won just twice in 18 league appearances since late September, drawing half of these clashes, though they’re not typically getting results against the better sides.
Prior to the weekend’s action, Brighton have lost seven of nine winless matches against the top nine in the table.
They did however find the net in six of these, including the reverse fixture back in November, and in fact they’ve scored in five of their past six encounters with the Lilywhites since 2018 – including all three under Potter.
Both Teams To Score
Across all competitions, both teams have scored in Tottenham’s last four encounters against Fulham, Sheffield Utd, Wycombe and Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s outfit have some stellar attacking players, but concessions against those other sides suggests their defence can be penetrated here.
Although Spurs are without Kane, Mourinho has other attacking outlets such as Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura, Carlos Vinicius and Lucas Moura, so we wouldn’t want to get behind the hosts at all.
Brighton are the only side yet to register a home win this term and are now 14 without a victory at the Amex stretching back into last season.
All but one of their seven stalemates over this period came against bottom-half sides, so we’d expect Tottenham to get back on track here.
