Recent Form
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men didn’t get off to the best start, suffering defeat at home to Crystal Palace for the second successive season, which has already raised eyebrows over their lack of transfer activity and their chances of success this season.
They got back to winning ways midweek with a 3-0 victory away at Luton, though they were only a goal to the good until the 88th minute and that was thanks to a Juan Mata penalty and a heroic stop from debutant Dean Henderson, so it wasn’t the most convincing of displays, and they may find it tough at the Amex this weekend.
Brighton look to have settled under Graham Potter now, and their 3-0 win at Newcastle embodied just that. The Seagulls flew out the traps and a Neal Maupay double helped them to a 2-0 lead within seven minutes, though in truth that could have been more.
They’ve now won three on the bounce in all competitions since their opening weekend defeat to Chelsea, with an aggregate 9-0 scoreline across the three and all coming by at least two clear goals.
Brighton have won this fixture in two of the three seasons since their promotion to the Premier League, though the most recent was a comfortable 3-0 victory to the visitors back in June.
While United haven’t won at home for four matches now, their away form is much stronger going unbeaten across their last seven since tasting defeat at Anfield back in January, and winning each of their last four so it’s difficult to get behind the hosts, while the Red Devils have been unconvincing at the start of this season so we’ll ignore the outright here.
Both Teams To Score
Both these sides have proven their attacking quality. Brighton have scored 12 goals across their last five matches in all competitions, while they only scored that many in the 15 games prior so they’ve really found their rhythm of late.
United meanwhile haven’t draw a blank for 24 matches stretching back to February, and although the trio of Lewis Dunk, Adam Webster and Ben White is one of the most solid backlines in the league in regard to personnel, we’d be surprised if the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood weren’t able to find the net at some point over the 90 minutes, and both teams to score looks like the way to go here.
