Saturday night sees an epic heavyweight showdown between Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora at the O2 in London. It’s fair to say that there’s no love lost between this pair, with the usual verbal barbs being thrown and somewhat souring the seasonal festive cheer.
It’s a rematch of the thoroughly entertaining heavyweight war from two years ago, which Whyte eventually won on points. Here Genting Casino takes a look at some of the key markets ahead of what promises to be an epic contest.
All eyes on Whyte
Dillian Whyte has fought himself into a No1 contender position, but finds himself frustrated on his path to a world title shot, with both WBC king Deontay Wilder and reigning IBF, WBO and WBA supremo Anthony Joshua pursuing more lucrative opponents. Currently ranked as the WBC’s No1 heavyweight challenger, Whyte heads into this bout the odds-on favourite to win at 1/3.
Chisora’s big chance
Earlier in the year many would have consigned Dereck Chisora to the heavyweight scrapheap. The 34-year-old had taken to fighting, and occasionally losing, against obscure names for obscure European titles. That all changed back in July when ?Del Boy? took apart Carlos Takam in devastating fashion on the undercard of Whyte vs. Parker, with some arguing the brutal knockout overshadowed the main event.
Now firmly back on the heavyweight agenda, Chisora is a 5/2 shot to win in Greenwich on Saturday.
Method of victory
If you fancy Whyte to take the spoils on Saturday night but want a bigger return on your outlay, there might be value in the method of victory markets. With Whyte installed to win the match, it’s hard to decide how he’ll do it. With a 68% KO record according to BoxRec, the Londoner is available at 9/5 to win by KO; TKO; UD. Certainly, that method of victory looks more likely than a points win, available at 5/4, given Whyte’s devastating punch power.
This really is the last chance saloon for Chisora and he’ll undoubtedly do all he can to land that knockout blow to secure a convincing victory and prove he can still mix it at top level. The Finchley native is an 11/2 shot to win the bout by KO; TKO; UD, while a points victory for Del Boy is available at 4/1.
Fight to go the distance?
Although the previous encounter went the full 12 rounds, it’s difficult to see this one going the same way as there’s so much at stake. Both boxers need to put in a convincing display to secure the next chapters in their career. An odds-on price of 8/13 for the fight to go 12 rounds seems extremely short, so there could be value to be had in the fight not going the distance with odds of 20/23.
