Amir Khan vs Phil Lo Greco: Fight Night Betting Preview

Phil Lo Greco believes he can finish off what remains of Khan’s career, while the ex-champion still feels he has what it takes to compete in the ring

It has been nearly two years since Amir Khan last appeared in the ring, when the Olympic silver medalist was brutally knocked out by Saul Alvarez.

It was clear to all that the fight with Alvarez tested much more than just his physicality. It was Khan’s mental state that came into question - in terms of confidence, pressure and belief.

But after two years, it seems Khan is ready to return to action with the ambition of proving he can still hack it at this level.

The chosen opponent for his return bout is Canadian born Phil Lo Greco. The thirty-three-year-old has been very inconsistent over the past three years - recording two wins and two losses against somewhat mediocre opposition. He did, however, manage to win his only bout of 2017, beating Jesus Gurolla by majority decision. The Canadian therefore comes into this fight with form and confidence on his side.

Lo Greco believes that Khan has never fully recovered from the “scars” left from his last fight and stated that he was going to cause an upset, by knocking the Englishman into early retirement. Get him to back up his talk and win by knockout here at 12/1.

The big talking points surrounding Khan’s much anticipated return to the ring include: whether or not he still has the speed and power to handle it at the top, and also if The Italian Sensation has the upper hand because while Khan’s been out of the game for the past two years, he’s been fighting and grafting.

Is it a new chapter or the end for King Khan?

With such a long absence, it is no wonder Khan’s fitness, speed and power have been called into question. Even if the ex-champion was training regularly during his absence from the ring (which we know he wasn’t), it would still be nigh on impossible to be in the same shape and mentality as before.

That being said, you cannot forget that Khan was one of the quickest boxers in the world before his demise, and if this break really will re-ignite his fire, then he will most surely be too much to handle for his challenger. Get Khan to come back with a bang and win in round three here at 11/1.

Does the underdog have the upper hand?

Lo Greco has had three fights since Khan took part in his last. That fight sharpness could give the Canadian the upper hand and, even with some recent bad form, he didn’t throw the towel in like Khan and he’s ready to cause an upset. Get him to do so and win here at 11/1.
