The ODI series is now done and dusted, with Australia claiming a 2-1 series victory as India avoided the whitewash with a 13 run victory over in Canberra.
The move to the shortest format of the game should arguably suit the hosts even more considering they were the top ranked side in the world in T20 cricket after a blistering 2019, though England’s recent victory over South Africa has seen them clinch top spot.
Indeed, the Aussies have won 10 of their last 13 matches dating back to the start of last year, which included a 2-0 series win away against India themselves at the beginning of 2019.
David Warner will still be missing for the hosts here which is a big loss and arguably proved to be the difference in the 3rd ODI earlier this week, and with one of Matthew Wade or D’Arcy Short likely to come in to partner Aaron Finch, they may lack a bit of firepower.
Warner is a huge loss to any side in world cricket in this format especially, ranking inside the top four for runs in each of his six seasons in the IPL which is a staggering record, so Justin Langer will need to find a way to manage this game without him.
India To Beat Australia
That’s much easier said than done against this India side who were in blistering form prior to the break.
They’ve won five of six unbeaten series since they last played Australia, and are unbeaten in eight matches now having lost just once in their last 12.
If Warner is impressive in this format, his total IPL run tally is beaten by just one man and that’s India captain Virat Kohli, who will sense an opportunity to carry over momentum from their victory in the week.
All things considered, Warner may again prove to be too big of a loss so we’re happy to get behind the underdogs.
