Whitewash Avoided
England went into the last day of 4th Ashes Test needing 388 runs to win or to just keep their ten wickets to draw and it went down to the final ball. Jimmy Anderson, who is not known for his batting prowess, managed to fend off a final over from Steve Smith to hold on for a draw and ensure that this series didn’t finish as a 5-0 whitewash.
Double Centurion Khawaja
Usman Khawaja came into the team to replace Travis Head for this test because he tested positive for Covid, and Khawaja became only the eighth batsman in Ashes Test history to score twin-hundreds in the same match.
This was the third time this had happened since the turn of the century after Steve Smith (2019) and Matthew Hayden (2002).
It seems that Khawaja is going to lose his place in the team, even though all-time Australian Cricket legend Shane Warne has called for him to move up the order and open for this next test.
First Time At The Bellerive Oval
England may have some newfound confidence after finally not suffering a defeat and putting the whitewash to bed, as we travel to Hobart (Tasmania) England will be hopeful that they can finally get a win on the scorecard here.
The Poms have never played a test match at the Bellerive Oval and this will give them another chance to start anew with new previous statistics telling them they are going to lose the game.
Rain Expected
Heavy rain is predicted on the opening day (Friday) of the series and also there is a little bit of rain predicted for the final day of the test, provided the game goes that far.
Heavy rain usually means that only 10-40% of the overs will be bowled on that day and with some moisture/dampness creeping into the wicket it could be the bowlers that provide the difference in the last Ashes Test.
Australia To Win
We don’t think that England have what it takes to get a result here, they have shown on too many instances that they are extremely vulnerable to a collapse of the batting order.
Two of the Tests so far have resulted in Australia winning by a whole innings which really shows us the dominance that the Australian bowlers have over the English batsmen, particularly on home soil.
