Recent Form

After a run of just three wins from 11 matches, with those victories all coming in the Europa League over Molde, Rapid Vienna and Dundalk, it’s now three on the bounce for Mikel Arteta’s men as they look to be returning to some kind of form, while they’ve now kept two clean sheets in a row having not managed a single shutout in an of their nine previous games.

Newcastle are now on their longest winless run of the season having gone six games without coming out on top, while their away form also leaves a lot to be desired this season having won just one of their last eight road trips and are coming into this game off the back of three away losses so will have their work cut out.

Mikel Arteta will likely opt to rest some of his regular starters for this clash after a hectic festive period comes to a close, though that has often proved fruitful for the London side and you only have to look at their FA Cup win last season to see just how impressive some of their fringe players can be.

Emile Smith-Rowe has been a shining light for his side in recent weeks having started the win against Chelsea and has been pulling the strings in that midfield role in the games since.

It’s likely that Arteta will choose to keep the youngster in the side for this one as more playing time will be more beneficial for him than rest at this point, and if he plays anywhere near the way he’s been playing recently, Arsenal should have too much going forward for Steve Bruce’s men.

Arsenal To Win To Nil

History is also certainly on the hosts’ side here, with the Magpies not managing to register a win at the Emirates since November 2010, losing each of their last eight visits.

What’s more, they haven’t managed a single goal here since 2014, with the only game between the two in the Arteta era finished 4-0 to the hosts, so it’s hard to see a way that Newcastle are going to topple the current holders.

The goals have dried up recently for Bruce’s charges too, with Andy Carrol’s late consolation against Leicester their only goal in their last four outings, and their only from open play in their last five.

That, coupled with their goals scoring record here would suggest they’ll find it very hard to get on the scoresheet against a side that’s playing with confidence at the moment.

Arsenal To Win To Nil At 8/5
