The Gunners now have no opportunity to claim silverware this season, with Liverpool getting the best of them in Thursday night’s Carabao Cup game, which ended 2-0 at the Emirates.
Arsenal got off to a lightning start, applying the majority of the pressure for the first 15 minutes, but unfortunately for them, Liverpool got their act together in midfield and from then on dominated the battle in the centre and subsequently the game.
Burnley’s last game didn’t exactly go to plan for the team, their opponent Huddersfield coming off better in a close 2-1 victory. The Clarets are currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier League (PL), though they have played the least number of games this season and are one point behind Newcastle, holding three games in hand over the Magpies and four in hand against Norwich, who are just two points ahead.
They have only taken victory on the single occasion this season, so this really needs to change if they want to stay up this year. However, with Chris Wood jumping ship to relegation rivals Newcastle and Maxwel Cornet at the AFCON, it’s hard to see where their goals are going to come from.
Arsenal To Win To Nil
Both teams have a plethora of missing players with a total of 19 missing from both teams combined, nine from Burnley and ten from Arsenal.
Because of the disparity in quality between the two teams, this will have a bigger effect on Burnley, who have a smaller squad and simply lack the resources to field a strong line-up.
Maxwel Cornet is a massive loss having been Burnley’s chief source of inspiration in the final third, netting six of Burnley’s 16 PL goals this season, which equates to 37.5%.
Matej Vydra, Ashley Barnes and Dwight McNeil are also out for this game, leaving Jay Rodriguez as their sole recognized striker. This all points to Burnley failing to score, which has already happened in 41% of their games this season.
Arsenal managed to win 1-0 at Turf Moor at the beginning of the season and the visitor’s prospects appear fairly bleak considering that Burnley have only received four points (4D) from 10 away games so far this term.
Moreover, the Gunners have won to nil in four of five home games taking on the bottom eight in the division.
