It was a difficult Thursday night for Arsenal as they had to rely on two sublime freekicks from new summer signing and second half substitute Nicolas Pepe to salvage a 3-2 victory.
They needed that victory at home, or the fans would have started to get a little frustrated after their bitterly disappointing performance against Sheffield Utd on Monday night, as questions continue to be asked over their away form.
Palace have been overachieving this season so far with victories over Man Utd, Aston Villa, Norwich and West Ham, as they currently sit in sixth place in the table on 14 points, one behind their hosts.
Their last visit to the Emirates will be all too fresh in the minds of Arsenal fans too, as they ran out 3-2 victors back in April, which also was the start of the Gunners’ terrible run in at the end of last season.

Each of those fixtures saw more than three goals, while three of them saw exactly five and so we’d be surprised to not see a few more fireworks in this one.
Especially since the Gunners have seen a minimum of four goals in five of their last six matches here across all competitions, while Palace showed their goalscoring capabilities when putting two past both Man Utd and West Ham across their last three road trips, which is all the more impressive seeing as only three sides have bettered the Red Devils defensive efforts this term in the league.

Since the start of last season Emery’s men have gone an outstanding W17-D4-L2 from their 23 matches at Emirates. Those two defeats came against the Eagles themselves and the Citizens which proves just how tough they are to beat at this stadium.
However, having cruised to victory by two or more goals in 12 of their first 17 such fixtures last term, they’ve since failed to win by more than a single goal in each of their last six matches.
Looking at how good Hodgson’s men have been on the road since losing to the Hammers just before Christmas, going W9-D1-L4 from their 14 trips, it’s hard to get behind Arsenal at their current price in the outright.
In fact, Palace beat top sides City, Wolves, Leicester, Arsenal and Man Utd in that time, so it’s hardly just been them picking up results against weaker teams, while they also took Liverpool to the wire in that time, losing 4-3 at Anfield, so we feel the two-goal handicap looks a generous price.
