Arsenal ticked off a comfortable 3-0 victory in their opening group game away at Eintracht Frankfurt, who reached the semi-finals of this competition last season and should in theory have provided the Gunners with the strongest test in this group.
This is now Arsenal’s third consecutive season competing in the Europa League and they’ve made fairly light work of beating the weaker teams they’ve encountered. Indeed, they’ve gone W10-D2-L1 across their group stage matches and kept a clean sheet in nine of the last 11 of these.
Kieran Tierney may have suffered a small setback in his recovery and is unlikely to feature, though Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding should expect to start and that will no doubt have a positive influence on Arsenal’s defensive capabilities.
However, given Arsenal have kept just two clean sheets in their last eight fixtures across all competitions, while Standard Liege have been in good goalscoring form this season as they’ve netted at least twice in eight of their 11 outings, there’s better value to getting the hosts onside elsewhere.

Standard Liege haven’t excelled on their travels in Europe over recent seasons. Since 2014/15, they’ve gone just W3-D2-L9 away from home and lost by a minimum of two clear goals in six of those defeats, despite this sample including qualifying matches where weaker teams can often be encountered.
There have even been 3-0 and 5-1 defeats to Ajax and Sevilla respectively this season alone, with those the only two sides of comparable quality to the Gunners that they’ve faced in the current campaign, so Unai Emery’s men appear a pretty sure thing to cover the -1 handicap.
Aubameyang To Score Anytime
Alexandre Lacazette remains sidelined with an ankle issue, so there’s unlikely to be any rest for main striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon international has started the season on fire and has bagged eight goals from as many appearances so far, scoring against every opponent bar Liverpool.
He shouldn’t find himself short of opportunities to add to that tally here, while he has eight goals in just 11 starts in this competition for the Gunners since signing for the club.
