Arsenal host Everton on Sunday (4pm) and they have a great home record against the Merseyside club. We look at some of the trends and odds available for the big clash…
ARSENAL v EVERTON
Following a tough start to their campaign, Arsenal are on a four-match winning run in all competitions after beating Vorskla Poltava in the Europa League on Thursday night. In their previous two Premier League games, either side of the International break, they dispatched Newcastle and Cardiff with ease.
Everton have never won at the Emirates and they arrive on the back of three league matches without a win. The Toffeemen have drawn both their away games 2-2 (at Wolverhampton Wanderers and at Bournemouth). Their only victory thus far came against Southampton and their shocking 3-1 home defeat by lowly West Ham last Sunday will have set alarm bells ringing.
Everton’s Genting Casino football odds are 5/1 to win this fixture, but they will be boosted by the return of Brazilian playmaker Richarlison. He has served a two-match ban after being sent off at Bournemouth and Everton have lost both subsequent fixtures. Richarlison, who has scored three times in three games, is 10/1 to score the first goal and 5/2 to net at any time.
INJURIES HAMPER EVERTON?
Everton will be without Seamus Coleman, James McCarthy, Michael Keane, Phil Jagielka, Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and Beni Baningime for Sunday’s clash, which the hosts are fancied to win, according to their Genting Casino soccer odds of 4/9.
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 24 matches at home against Everton in all competitions and ran out 5-1 victors when they last met, with Aaron Ramsey scoring a hat-trick. Ramsey is 18/8 to score at any time and 13/2 to score the first goal, although he is a doubt after picking up a knee injury last week and may well be sidelined.
This is a busy period for the Gunners, who are playing their second of four home games in a 10-day span.
Arsenal’s other main injury concern is Lucas Torreira who limped out of Thursday’s clash with Vorlska with a knee injury. That will likely mean that Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi, who were left out in midweek by Unai Emery, will return, resuming their partnership in midfield.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was lively against the Ukrainian side and could also be in contention again.
GUNNERS CONCEDE AGAIN?
While the Gunners looked good in midweek after a sluggish start, they conceded two late goals and that will be a concern for Emery.
His side has conceded in all six of their competitive matches since the Spaniard’s arrival in the summer and Arsenal are 6/4 to keep a clean sheet against Everton. Likewise, Everton have similarly failed to keep a clean sheet and they are 6/1 to do so this time.
However, what few people have turned up to watch the Gunners – the atmosphere on Thursday night was so raucous that it would failed to disturb a sleeping kitten – have been royally entertained. Arsenal scored 14 goals in the first month of the new season and while Everton are becoming draw specialists, they have also found the net twice in two road trips.
The Genting Casino online soccer odds have the draw at 15/4, but perhaps it is worth noting that none of Arsenal’s last 21 league games have ended in a stalemate.
Even when they play badly, as they showed at home last week, Everton are capable of scoring and they have managed to do so in every game, so there will be a few banking on both sides to score at the odds of 8/15.
Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has looked sharp in recent outings and netted a brace on Thursday. The Gabon striker is 8/13 to score at any time and 14/5 to score the first goal.
Former Arsenal man Theo Walcott has scored 56 goals in all competitions while at the Emritaes Stadium and he would like nothing better than to get one against his former employers. There will be those who think he is value at 11/4 to score at any time, patricularly since the Gunners looked vulnerable to the counter-attack in midweek and his pace will worry the hosts.
